It's in the title - I have had 2 servers for a couple of years now, an Unraid server and a Windows 11 server running Stablebit Drivepool and Channels DVR - I went out of the country for a few days and of course, the day that I leave a hard drive died in my Drivepool array and it locked out Channels from writing to the drivepool array, so I missed about 1 week+ of recordings - so I am thinking about running everything on my Unraid server, but I think it is better to run Channels in Windows 11 vs. the Docker to get the latest fixes, etc. - the docker does not seem to update as often - can anyone comment if they have Channels running in a Windows 11 VM in Unraid with transcoding enabled? (vs. running the Docker)? Or perhaps I should just keep the Windows 11 machine?
I run it in docker. Been doing it that way for over 4 years and do not have issues. No need for spinning up a VM, especially a Windows VM. The docker container doesn't need to update, the updates are done the same way.
I run it on a Docker in UNRAID. No VM needed and it's been flawless for me.
I guess my concern is that the Docker is updated far less often than the Windows program - is that the case? There are a lot of pre-release versions available, sometimes almost daily, that sometimes fix problems with authorizing TVE and I am not sure if the dockers keep up with all of the other platform releases.
Not true. It updates to stable releases when it needs to and for Pre-Release you updated yourself just by clicking. I don't believe that Pre-Release updates automatically on any version and have to be forced.
As I stated before, the docker container does not need to be updated. The program is running inside of it. Channels can be updated to any pre-release the same way it would on any other platform and will automatically be updated when a new stable release is available. I even have a script written to update to the newest pre-release every morning at 4am. It works flawlessly.
OK - I didn't realize that, but now that you pointed this out it makes sense - I can just use the admin web page to update the docker to the latest pre-release - now I have to upgrade my Unraid motherboard to get some better transcoding power
