Anyway to force videos to be played via Channels DVR video player?

Hi guys,

Love Channels by the way!

Quick question. I am running 2 different types of streams on my Channel guide

  1. HDHOMERUN
  2. DizqueTV (a front end that plays content from Plex library) uses FFMPEG to play files

I'm having constant issues with DizqueTV channels. Most of the time the videos play (for example I have a channels setup that plays Angelina Jolie movies 24/7). Sometimes when I browse to the channels the video will not play. I've looked pretty hard to determine why certain videos will not play (and sometimes that same video plays fine and other times it does not).

By the way the same videos I have trouble with play fine if I launch directly from Plex and works fine if I play directly from my Channels DVR library. I find that the Channels DVR video player (which apparently also uses FFMpeg) plays videos much better and I never have any issues launching or playing files from directly from Channels library. Another thing is the Channels DVR players seems to be more efficient when playing videos as well (lower CPU and memory usage).

So is there a way to force when I select a channel to play that video using Channels instead of playing the video to the source of the stream????

Thanks!

Is this what you're trying to accomplish?

No sorry I should have mentioned I'm using that method to list DizqueTV channels into Channels DVR guide. Dizquetv outputs a m3u link which I use to put into Channels.

It seems to me that when I play content from say an example, an HDHOMERUN source. Channels passes the file to be played by HDHOMERUN device.
And the same when I play content from DizqueTV channels, Channels then passes the file to be played by DizqueTV.

I'm asking of instead of the above, Channels keeps and plays the file using the internal Channels Player (similar to going to your Channels DVR library).

Thanks!

Maybe I’m misunderstanding but I think you may be thinking about this incorrectly. As far as I know, the Channels custom video player is used for all content sources, with the exception of stream links, which redirect to a different app entirely. Are you talking about stream links? It doesn’t seem like it.

I've looked at it and tested pretty extensively. Ran app tracing and watched the processes on my Channels DVR server. Channels DVR doesn't use (on my setup) the custom video player for anything other than the files in my Channels Library.

When I play content listed in Channels (from my HDhomerun source for example). Channels passes the video to be played to the HDhomerun player. And all Channel DVR resources are not processing anything on the server (from a playback standpoint).

And when I play content from DizqueTV (again which is just a front end for videos in my Plex library). Channels DVR sends the content I select in Channels, to the DizqueTV custom player.

I tested this by changing the name of the custom video player in the DizqueTV application folder. And when I went to play content in Channels. The playback failed because it couldn't find the DizqueTV custom video player (remember b/c I purposely renamed it).
If Channels used it own video player this test would have worked.

Maybe this isn't an option. Hopefully one of the devs can chime in and help out if its possible to do this (force Channels DVR to not pass the content to another video player).
