Apple TV Beta - 2017 1.19.447

Hey everyone, a new beta just dropped. Here’s the changelog and please give feedback about these changed things. Thanks!

  • NEW: Up Next recordings are available from the Top Shelf.
  • IMPROVED: VoiceOver support on Guide and Recordings tabs.
  • FIXED: Channel scan on legacy tuners with ClearQAM could miss some channels
  • FIXED: Crash in new channel scan code.

Does anyone have any feedback on this build?

Yeah just the top shelf stuff. It would be nice to have the option to prioritize either the Up next or the top channels to show first. Otherwise stable build!

Earlier when I tested the Top Shelf it went to the On Next Screen and there was no episode to play and then just stopped. Just now I tried again and it actually displayed the On Next Screen but then displayed the episode.

I think there may be an issue with On Next. Earlier to night every show from On Next did not show an episode. But when I went into more episodes there were episodes.

My guess is maybe there is a bug with On Next.

I am ok with On Next but would be nice if it also show the “more episodes” along with On Next Episodes.

I think you’re confusing what happens when you click on an up next icon. It takes you directly to an episode, not the show page. When you click More Episodes, it takes you to the show page with all the episodes listed.

The idea is that Up Next is showing you the next episode that you would want to watch for a show, and takes you directly to it so you can hit Watch and watch it right away.

@tmm1 - I understand what you are saying. And maybe some misunderstanding. Earlier tonight when I selected from the Top Shelf it did not work. Maybe the recording was not done

OK… I understand now what you mean. If so, why not just start playing the episode instead of having me hit the Watch Icon? I think the real problem is what if I do not want to watch the most recent episode. What if I am 1 episode back? Would it not be better to allow me to pick which episode I want to watch with the most current episode list first like you do with the Shows List?

Again, as I have mentioned before you do not support Profiles. So maybe my wife has watched the most recent episodes and I am a few episodes back. I would much rather make sure I have not seen a prior episode before watching the most recent episode.

Maybe I am still missing something. Maybe it is just my paranoia of not trusting the system.

This sounds like a bug. If you select from top shelf it should play. Thanks for reporting.

Instead of clicking on the Up Next icon, you can press the Play/Pause button and it will start playing right away.

Up Next knows which episodes you’ve watched, and will recommend the first unwatched episode. So if you are 1 episode back, it will know that and play the right episode.

This is a valid concern. The Up Next does not work as well when multiple people are using the DVR and watching at different times.

Exactly. When more then one person is sharing at different times it could be a problem. Also, is it possible that you think I watched an episode but I did not finish. Maybe fell asleep.

Anyway, I may not be your ideal user. I said before this is not a big deal to me. I will work with it. I understand others may love the On Next feature. The New TV App seems to work this way as well. Maybe something I just need to get use too. The wife and I do not watch a lot of the same shows.

So please just take my input as being helpful. I will adapt.

I agree with Mike re: multi viewers. Therefore, we do not use Up Next at all. Would really to see at least an option for “On Now” first. Today, I had to replace “Beta” in the primo spot with the not yet expired “Alpha”, as my husband was getting confused.:scream::tired_face: It will be hell here once Alpha expires.

I think there may be an issue with On Next

There was. And it was fixed. The problem was, it was trying to load the Up Next episode after loading the application before it had actually refreshed from the server after having been inactive for a while.

It’ll be fixed in the next release to the store.
