Apple TV versus IPad clients

On the Apple TV I can press watch on program in a series and with autoplay on, it will just keep playing episodes until all done. Perfect for when I want noise on the tv all day.

The IPad though will play 3 episodes and then Stop, with the option the play another episode, but it will not go on and in like the apple TV version. All the settings are the same on both platforms. The iPad is permanently plugged in and I use airplay 2 to cast it to my tv that does not have an Apple TV attached

Any ideas why there is a difference between the two?

Or am I missing something on the iPad version.

Thanks.

You have any client settings enabled on the server Globally or for that client device?
Like Playback > Auto Play settings

Even with the global settings in the server side, the iPad client will not play continuously like the Apple TV client does.

You may want to see what @tmm1, @maddox or @eric have to say about the discrepancy. It might be intentional, accidental, or out of their control and OS-based.

Sounds like a bug. Submit diagnostics after it happens next time.

This is a weird bug. I'd expect it to work or not work, not play 3 and then stop playing. The whole feature is based off a playlist of videos so if it worked the first time, it should keep working.

Diagnostics would help to see why it didn't continue playing.

Would Watched vs. Partially Watched vs. Unwatched make any difference?

Yes, Auto Play has settings. See if it's set to not include watched items in auto play. if not, then they wouldn't be included, so the episodes you are expecting (watched ones) to be there, wouldn't be there.

Here is the diagnostic log after it stopped auto playing.

The log has to be sent from the iPad client under Settings > Support > Submit Diagnostics

This is what displays on the iPad client and where it just stops autoplaying.

Thanks. Sent. I appreciate the help.

so it:

  1. Shows it's going to play the next episode
  2. does the count down
  3. gets to "Starting now..."
  4. Exits out of the video player

Is this correct? Is it happening on ANY show and recordings, or just this one? I'm not able to reproduce this behavior.

It doesn’t exit out of the they layer, it just stays there until I touch the bottom on the bottom right to continue.

It will sit at that screen forever until I press the button.

It happens with all shows. Plays 3 episodes then stops and waits for me press the button.

Thanks again for your time.
