Appreciation Post! Long Hospital Stay

About two weeks ago, my mother entered the hospital for a procedure that requires a four plus week stay. Her room is equipped with a huge television, I would say probably at least 70" in size. However, their channel lineup leaves a bit to be desired. It's decent enough, but it's no full FiOS TV package.

My first visit after she was admitted was to set up all of her tech; This would include setting up an Nvidia Shield with all of her streaming platforms logged in, and of course, the Channels DVR app. She and the rest of my family are already very familiar with Channels as I've gotten everyone to convert to the platform over renting set-top boxes -- even my 84 year old grandmother! (who is by far the biggest power user)

To be able to bring that piece of home with her to the hospital where she has endless time to kill has been a blessing. I'm always amazed whenever I find a new place or scenario where I can use Channels, and this has been the biggest one to date by far. I've been told the nurses on the floor have been amazed at how she's got a fully functional DVR in her hospital room, and one so far has asked me how I was able to do it. So I just had to come here and express my appreciation for the ability to provide this to her away from home. The at-home benefits are already appreciated but being able to bring it down there has been pretty special.

That is a great story. Channels really shines in its remote viewing ability.

I can certainly understand your appreciation for Channels' remote DVR/streaming capabilities. In fact, Channels' UX around remote streaming was the only reason I started using it.

Similar to your situation, my overall appreciation for Channels came with a hospital stay. I was admitted with stage IV lymphoma that subsequently required prolonged in-patient chemo treatments. The use of Tvheadend/Kodi over hospital wifi was a battle, and so I migrated my household over to Channels. A year of prolonged and sporadic hospital stays (including 6 weeks in isolation post-transplant) was made infinitely more bearable with a streamer and Channels.

The software has its flaws, but there is nothing comparable on the market from my own personal experience.

This is a fabulous story, and beautifully demonstrates the wonderful functionality that even basic use of channels DVR ads. It is all the more reason why the person who posted that they were getting rid of it I totally missed the boat.

When my Shield was having such huge issues due to the Nvidia upgrade, I realize how dependent I had become on channels DVR. I wouldn’t give it up for anything. Kudos to the developers for developing, maintaining, and continually upgrading this wonderful product !!

Luckily, I have not had to use it in a hospital setting, hoping your mom is healed and feeling better! We use Channels on both of our TV's in the RV, and the ability to change the streaming quality allows us to view our pre-recorded shows (via ATT/Winegard). Just got Starlink added, so (hopefully) no more 300-700 Kbps streaming.
