Just recently all of my apps started crashing about 5 minutes into playing recordings. This is happening on my Android phone, Kindle Fire, and Fire Stick. It doesn't seem to have an issue with streaming live video, but just the recordings. Everything is set to use Hybrid decoding because hardware results in only audio as well as tuner sharing on. Just looking for some help on what to do to troubleshoot.

EDIT: Looks like it is only recordings from certain channels that cause it to crash. Others skip forward or have pixelation or mistimed audio and video. Do recordings just sometimes get corrupted for some reason and then not work? would there be a reason it's like 15 recent recordings with various issues?

Does Software decoding make any difference?

Are these all antenna recordings?

Sounds like signal problems. Hardware/hybrid decoder is very sensitive to corrupted data and can crash. That's because that decoder is designed for streaming video sources where corruption is very rare.

They are antenna recordings. That is helpful to know. I will try with software decoding.

It seems like it may be related to signal quality from the original source. As far as the decoding options, I thought if I was viewing inside my home network that decoding wasn't needed and it would just use the original recording. Is this not true? Are there certain clients that require decoding regardless?

Video always has to be decoded by the client to be displayed on screen.

You're thinking of transcoding (i.e re-encoding) which is only required for away-from-home.

Right. I've continued to try to troubleshoot this. It now isn't causing a crash, but it is skipping, having moments of partial images, and times when it fast forwards the video to catch up with the audio. The commercial skip seems to not do anything on these recordings (or is it maybe contributing to the issues?). Live TV works great. It is only on OTA recordings, but it seems to show up both on channels with good signal as much as ones with not as good signal. Is there a certain signal sttength and quality I need for recording and is that higher than for watching live? It seems like my HVEC channels are a little lower than just HD. They are all about 60% for both quality and strength on my HDHR status. Is there a booster you would recommend? I don't really want to mount a large antenna on the top of my house.

60% is pretty low for signal. 80% is closer to minimum.
