Are direct stream recordings/live tv re-encoded?

I’m new to Channels and so far am very impressed with the flexibility and functionality. That said, all of my sources are over the Internet via direct stream from YouTube TV and Philo. I’m assuming everything (live tv and recordings) are being re-encoded? Coming from TiVo, there was no re-encoding as the stream was saved in its original quality. I’m just curious how lossy this process is…

Nothing is transcoded.

Welcome!

I’m curious why you assumed everything was re-encoded.

TVE does not use YT or Philo (the provider) app or web streams.
It only uses the login credentials from the provider to access the specific networks web stream.
Same stream you can watch in web browser at that specific network channels own website.
like at NBC.com etc.

So the quality of the locally recorded/live stream should be the same as that from Philo or Yiutube TV?

Whatever is the source quality is what it will be recorded at. Check this thread to understand the quality of all those TVE steams, though, as they may not be the same as what you would see in the app or OTA:

Very good to know, thanks so much! :grinning:
