Aspect Ratio Anomaly Frndly Service

I am somewhat of a novice on certain subjects of AV. This is an interesting anomaly that I have only seen happen on MeTv in the Frndly app (I use mine through my fire tv), this is not a MeTv problem, as the OTA I receive is fine. Nor is it a "tv" setting.

The aspect ratio (4:3, as I pay for that tier), toggles for no reason between the 4:3 (black bars), to a slightly larger size, still with the bars, not quite filling the screen as a 16:9 would. Quite at random, not enough to tank watching it, but still it's interesting. None of the other channels in the service that we watch do this.

Just curious as to the why behind this ? I would think the engineers at Frndly would know, but getting hold of them would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Thanks !

Steve

Don't know anything about Frndly, but I get MeTV from 2 different cities via OTA and I think it's MeTV that does the "slightly larger size, still with the bars".

It annoys me to no end since I'm what they used to call an "original aspect ratio snob". It was pretty painful back in the DLP days where TV geometry was a crapshoot at best.
