Asustor AS6702T or Synology DS723+?

Looking for opinions between these 2 NAS units. I currently have a WD MyCloudEX2Ultra that is performing adequately, EXCEPT I am unable to remote stream. I keep getting a message that the server doesn’t have enough power to transcode. Apparently remote streaming is not going to work on this NAS unit. So, looking to upgrade to something better.

Both of the above units are more-or-less comparable, in that they have dual ethernet, ability to use M.2 modules for caching, and upgradeable RAM. Also both advertise hardware transcoding. I see one significant difference, though, in the CPUs. The Asustor uses an Intel Celeron N5105 processor and the Synology has an AMD Ryzen R1600.

Anybody have any experience with remote streaming using either of these NAS units? There is a large Synology following and I don’t see many that use the Asustor, so I’d love to know what you think.

Take a look at the Plex NAS Compatibility Guide chart NAS Compatibility List | Plex Support

So basically

Asustor
AS-6702T x64 (Celeron N5105) 2.0 Ghz

Synology Newer to Older
DS224+ x64 (Celeron J4125) 2.0 Ghz
DS423+ x64 (Celeron J4125) 2.0 Ghz
DS720+ x64 (Celeron J4125) 2.0 Ghz
DS920+ x64 (Celeron J4125) 2.0 Ghz
DS1520+ x64 (Celeron J4125) 2.0 Ghz
DS220+ x64 (Celeron J4025) 2.0 Ghz
DS420+ x64 (Celeron J4025) 2.0 Ghz
DS1019+ x64 (Celeron J3455) 1.5-2.3 Ghz
DS718+ x64 (Celeron J3455) 1.5-2.3 Ghz
DS918+ x64 (Celeron J3455) 1.5-2.3 Ghz

My oldest is a Synology DS1513+ and my newest is a DS1019+
About time to upgrade again.

So you have a Synology now. Are you using remote streaming? How is it working?

I occasionally remote stream from my DS1019+ using Tailscale remote access with 1 stream.
Synology Tailscale package and Tailscale app on my iPhone and iPad.
No issues.
I tested it years ago with 3 hardware transcoded streams locally, but that was just to test the limit.
