ATSC 3.0 and DRM?

Does anyone know if ATSC 3.0 employs DRM? Just wondering since I would assume this would negatively impact the possibility of recording OTA programs.

It supports it. It’s baked in by design. It’s up to the providers on if they use it or not.

I'm guessing if they use it, Chsnnels would not be able to record, right?

100% depends on the implementation. It’s impossible to know.

Thanks. I just found this article which may be of interest to others....

I may end up having to go back to YouTube TV! Uugggghhh!

It appears ATSC 3.0 DRM is on the way. It also appears HDHomeRun ATSC 3.0 tuners might already support it. If all that is true, will Channels be able to support it?

I was just reading this on the SD forums and was curious about this for Channels. SD says they will support it...but I'm not sure what that means for Channels DVR and remote viewing.

I've never had to deal with DRM so this is all new to me.

We have no idea how its going to work at this point so its just wait and see.

they just released atsc 3.0 in my area with drm. I was wondering if channels supported it. if not will it. thanks.

I am pretty sure the answer is No.

I would think if the tuner has DRM capabilities (HDHome Run doesn't at this point), I would hope that would help?

Search atsc3 in the forum and you will find a wealth of information.
