ATSC 3.0 Impact

This may be covered in another post, but the following article says Broadcasting in ATSC 3.0 will prevent OTA recordings. Any truth to this?

There is very little information available, and no way to know how broadcasters will use the new DRM capabilities. That article makes a lot of random guesses and is mostly FUD.

From the article:

If you buy a Tablo or HDHomeRun tuner today—or even if you’re just plugging an antenna into your television—you can expect to use that hardware for at least five years without issue.

Time will tell how the broadcasters use the tech, it’s too early to see exactly how this will affect cord cutters. DRM is not the only possible problem we have here, there’s also the ability to kill much more of your privacy than current TV standards. The increased resolution ability might be a good thing, but I’m not sure it’s worth the additional problems this tech may bring. I’d say be very active in providing the FCC and Congress input/comments about concerns and cross our fingers that they won’t sell our privacy out to the highest bidder (I know, probably a futile attempt). As tmm1 said, main take away from the article is that we probably have at least 5 years before we start seeing problems this tech might bring.
