ATSC 3.0 Tuning Issues / Reliability

So my wife went to watch the recording of "Fantasy Island" last night and told me the recording was bad. When I looked at the logs, I can see it tried to tune into the ATSC3 version 153.1 and failed and then defaulted back to the ATSC 1.0 version on 53.1.

This is a problem because in Pittsburgh the ATSC 1.0 station (53.1) is not a good signal for us so the recording was very pixelated throughout and thus unwatchable.

I noticed when tuning into this ATSC3 channel manually, sometimes it's fast (1-2 seconds) and sometimes it takes much longer (5-10 seconds) and occasionally it fails completely which is what it looks like happened when it tried to record last night.

Any chance these tuning issues are going to be resolved? This is a significant issue if we can't record the ATSC 3 channels reliably.

Your tuner wasn't able to get a signal. This is a hardware issue, and not something Channels can fix. You can try the SiliconDust forums to see why your turner couldn't get a feed.

You can't say for sure it's solely a hardware issue when Channels has already made coding changes in regard to its ability to tune in ATSC3 channels. Also, reverting to tuning to the 53.1 channel would seem to be some behavior of the Channels app, not the HDHomeRun hardware so it appears some timeout is involved.

This message comes directly from the tuner

Okay will check with SD, but given it happened using Channels and not their software, doubtful of a resolution.

When the tuner itself is saying it can't get a video stream, yes I can say it's a hardware issue.

I upgraded the firmware and will see if it happens again. I figure that will be the first thing they ask.

Is there a way to prevent it from recording the 53.1 if the 153.1 fails? I'd rather not record it and know right away that it failed.

Disable 53.1

Or specify 153.1 in the Series Pass.

Much easier to disable it as you would have to change every PASS and any other future... you create and the only way to add Channels to passes is by Web Server cannot be done on the Clients.
