ATV not seeing DVR (SHIELD bonjour issue)

After months of flawless performance this morning one and only one of my AppleTVs won’t see the DVR I have running on an Nvidia Shield.

I can see it/use it fine on my other AppleTV in the bedroom and my iPhone but the main one in my living room is not working.

I have tried the following so far to no avail:
-Restarted Nvidia Shield & DVR app
-Restarted AppleTV multiple times
-Restored AppleTV
-Rebooted router
-Toggle bonjour discovery on the DVR
-Uninstall/reinstall Channels App, regular and beta versions

Any ideas why a single AppleTV on the same wireless network as all of my other devices can’t see the DVR?

That’s strange. Some users have reported similar problems when using 2ghz Wi-Fi instead of 5ghz.

I’ve tried both and no difference, it’s really weird that it’s only happening on the one AppleTV.

After rebooting my other AppleTV in the bedroom it now has the same issue as the other one. Now I cannot see the DVR on either of my AppleTV 4’s. One AppleTV is on OS 11, the other is on OS 10. It is still working on my iPhone though.

This is making me wonder if it’s somethjng with the router? Don’t think I changed any settings on it recently.

This is bumming me out, I can get by in the short term as the DVR appears to still be recording on the Nvidia Shield, but without being able to access it directly via the AppleTVs to view/schedule recordings is definitely a downer since this setup has worked so well until yesterday.

I setup a new DVR on a windows computer and now the AppleTVs see the DVR. However, it would not let me restore the database from the backup files that are on the USB drive that was attached to the Nvidia Shield.

You need to uncheck the DVR checkbox before you can restore from a backup.

Tried that, still doesn’t work.

What does it say or do? What’s in the log?

It will let me navigate to a backup folder but once selected it won’t load anything.
Below is a snippet of the log from the last 10 minutes.

Can you send a screenshot to [email protected]

Did you turn off the DVR on your SHIELD? I’m curious if you were able to access the DVR’s web interface when bonjour stopped working.

Yes I turned the DVR off on the Shield and also powered it down. I can still access the DVR web page from other computers with Bonjour off.

I will send a screenshot in just a bit.

I had the same thing happen to me last night (and was going to keep an eye on this thread if it didn’t fix itself); 3 ATV’s with both the stable release and most up-to-date betas, and iOS stable/beta just could not see the DVR… the Shield running the DVR engine had frozen or something for a “Shield Experience” update, and after that nothing could see the DVR (not even the Channels app on the Shield itself that needs the DVR engine could find it), but I could get to the DVR settings page through Safari no problem. Tried restarting the Shield, stopping/restarting the DVR engine, nothing seemed to fix it last night.

Mine seemed to remedy itself overnight though - Channels ATV app sees my recordings just fine, and Channels iOS (beta) can remotely see everything just fine. I’ll check my logs when I get home and see if there is anything in there beneficial to you.

I didn’t have bonjour enabled on my SHIELD, but I enabled it and it wasn’t working. My SHIELD was also sitting on the 6.0 upgrade screen. After the upgrade, it’s still not working.

Looking at the Log shows some errors:

2017/10/02 14:35:26 [ERR] bonjour: failed to handle query v6: write udp [::]:5353->:5353: sendmsg: destination address required
2017/10/02 14:35:45 [ERR] bonjour: failed to handle query v4: write udp [::]:5353->:5353: sendmsg: destination address required

So clearly something isn’t working.

Okay I was able to track down the bonjour bug and have uploaded a new build for the SHIELD. To update to it, go to your DVR settings page on a desktop browser. Then hold down the SHIFT key and click on the Check For Updates button. It should download v2017.10.03.0035

Let me know if it works after upgrading.
