ATV: recordings tab: Focus jumps when viewing show details and returning

On the ATV app (any version):

  1. Navigate to the recordings tab.
  2. Navigate to any show in up next.
  3. Click on the show to see details.
  4. Press menu to return to the main recordings screen.
  5. Note the focus has jumped to a different show.

Same issue in the other recordings sections; although I did find a single instance [Edit: actually two instances] where the focus was correct on return.

I did NOT find focus issues on the other (not recordings) tabs.

Hmm, not able to reproduce this on v2.1.34

Does focus jump in any discernible pattern?

All versions have the problem for me.

Pattern not clear. Below is what is happening in up next. Example, clicking on the eight show (2nd row, col 3) and returning shifts the focus to the sixth show (2nd row, col 1).

Shows in up next section are:

01 02 03 04 05
06 07 08 09 10 (note: 10 is more)

The focus after returning is:
03 09 05 01 07
04 10 06 02 08

Edit: the pattern is the same for the recently recorded section. It differs for movies. I presume because the movies are six across?

Note: I’ve had this problem for a very long time. Just getting around to writing it up. It would be interesting to hear if others see it.

To complete the pieces:

The movie section behaves as follows:

Movies section:

01 02 03 04 05 06

Positions 01 and 09 keep focus.

Super weird.

I tried on both tvOS 11 and tvOS 10.2.1 with v2.1.34 and all sections keep focus as expected. I know we had bugs with focus selection after the Recordings tab was first redesigned but they were quickly fixed.

Will take another look at the code this week to see if anything stands out. Also curious to hear if anyone else is seeing this issue.

Yes, it is wierd. I see it on 2.1.34 and the
latest beta. Will try deleting 2.1.34 and reinstalling.

Edit: Reinstalling did NOT help. (Deleted release and beta together and reinstalled.)

Are you using Siri remote or something else?

Really confused about why I don’t see the same behavior.

I’m using the Siri remote (but just tried a different remote and same problem).

I have the 64GB version of the ATV: A1625(64 GB)

Just tried it. Not good.

In the up next section, the focus always jumps to position one.

In the recently recorded sections, for selections 2…last, focus jumps to the first position of the section. For position one, focus jumps to position one of the previous section.

Edit: oops, I got that a little wrong. For the 2nd to end of the first row of subsequent sections, focus jumps to column 1 of the last row of the previous section.

The 7.19.2119 beta has the same behavior I originally reported.

The build with the fix hasn’t been pushed out yet. We’ll get it out tonight.
