Atv remote- cannot fast forward/30s skip - it just pauses

Cannot perform 30s skip/ fast forward or any rewind functions- a click anywhere on the ATV remote pauses. I am new ,but I know I could do this before. Is it just an app update or tvOS update issue?

It seems both are up to date.

Channels 2.1.36
TvOS 10.2.2

Does tapping the trackpad make the timeline appear on screen?

I had a similar problem once and rebooting the ATV fixed it.
