This might be a known issue but I just set my new ATV up three hours ago and I’m noticing the audio is slightly ahead of the Video.
Is this happening consistently across all channels? Does it start in sync and then get out of sync?
It happened once after an extended viewing period on one channel. (a couple of hours) But it was very noticeable. I’ll do some more testing today to see if I can reproduce the issue.
I just bought the Apple TV and the app yesterday to support future development.
We are tracking a known issue causing audio issues during commercials on some cable providers. This appears to be caused because of the way the commercials are spliced into the video stream, and is related to discontinuities in the audio timestamps which cause our video player to get confused.
If you think you’re seeing this issue, please leave a comment with your cable provider and the channel you experienced problems with.
We are working on a fix to the video player which will be released into the next beta build for testing.
Just curious if the issue you are reporting would only affect watching commercials, or would the problem continue after the commercial is completed?
I’ve set my parents up with Channels and they’ve noticed audio syncing issues over the past several days with more than one of their Apple TV’s. I figured it was a networking issue and rebooted their routers and Apple TV’s last evening and everything is back to normal now. Am I correct in thinking this could be caused by a networking issue? 3 of their Apple TV’s are hard wired and one is wireless. I’ll try and gathers any information I can from them if this problem occurs again.
It starts during the switch from one commercial to another but then continues until the player is stopped.
I’ve just found a fix and will be publishing a new beta build shortly.
New beta v4.7.1841 with a fix is available through TestFlight. If you need an invite, leave a comment here and I will send you one.
I’m testing now. I just accepted the Test Flight invitation and have installed the beta. Will let you know how it does in an hour or so.
So far the sync is good. I have watched two different channels for well over an hour each. I will continue to watch as much as possible. Baseball comes on in an hour so I have to switch to WMC for that since FOX Sports is Copy Once.
I updated and happened to watch a recording from last night that gave me an issue 4 mins into the recording. Although I use cable, the recording looked to have a breakup in in the video at the time of the issue. The audio got way ahead of the video and remained that way for approx 45 or 50 seconds or until I either stop/started the recording or jumped ahead 30 seconds. Another oddity was that I could not skip backwards prior to the point where the video began to break up. I kept trying to skip backwards and it wouldn’t go prior to it. I could, however, pause the video and skim to an earlier time.
@ts01 Sounds like the record engine crashed while recording and resumed automatically later, hence the gap. We have zero visibility into how HDHR DVR works, so we can’t really help fix these problems. That’s the whole reason we are writing our own DVR engine.
I’ve gotten several confirmations that the audio/video sync issue has been resolved with the latest beta. We plan to include this fix in the next release of Channels on the App Store. Thanks to everyone for helping to test!
It looks like i am having the commercial issue on pretty much every channel that plays commercials. I am on Verizon Fios in NJ and the channel freezes until i hit menu and go back. It seems it can happen on any commercial on any channel, but almost always on a particular PSA for shampoo bottles being recycled into hair brushes.
I put a few hours in on one of the offending channels tonight in the beta and did not have any freezes even though the offending commercials came on a number of times. Great job to everyone!
We’ve released v1.5.3 to the App Store with this fix.
I am having a small problem with audio/video sync in v1.5.8 after playing the same channel for several hours. It also did this in previous versions.
It is not too far out of sync after a long time, maybe fractions of a second, but pretty noticeable when watching people talking. I have not tried all the combinations, but at least one way to fix it is to switch to another app then switch back.
My setup is HDHR Connect on 802.11ac wireless with signal strength 4 to 5 out of 5 circles at the ATV4.
Any pointers on this one?
I’m having the same issue since the last update. Everything was perfect before.
yay!
