First, this is my living room setup: Apple TV 4K feeding into LG C3. C3 feeds Sonos Arc via eArc. AppleTV gets OTA from HDHR. All connections are ethernet and on the same network switch, which has been changed out as a test as were the cables.
As a side note I also have 4 Apple TVs in other rooms.
On the living room gear I have always had to keep the audio setting in Channels set to Legacy, If I put it on Default all my OTA stations start to get choppy audio. TVE feeds are always good. No other Apple TVs have this issue with OTA and they all are set to Default.
No other sources such as Netflix or Disney have any audio issues with my setup.
I experimented with putting the Apple TV into 16 bit audio only, and that cleared the issue, but doing that prevents the AppleTV from passing ATMOS audio on streaming apps. So not a good fix but maybe a clue?
So the whole reason I am trying to get this to work in Default is because my local Fox station has gone Dolby Atmos for their 3.0 feed, and I would like to be able to use it, but the Legacy audio decoder does not handle Atmos and passes no sound. I have to use Default.
So looking for ideas as to what is the issue with Default audio and 16/24 bit audio switching with OTA. I think the issue is OTA is 16 bit but other sources are 24 bit and something get hung or does not signal the ATV that it needs to change modes.
