When attempting to access Channels DVR on a local network (172.40.0.0/16) it is asking for authorization, even though I authorized already when connecting to the Channels DVR web server.
Is this as intended, or is there a way to access it without authorization if the client is on the same local network?

172.40/16 is outside of the RFC 1918 defined private addresses; any connection using an RFC 1918 address is considered local, and any other address is considered public and requires authentication.
Your best option is to use an RFC 1918 address space for your private LAN; after all, that's why those addresses have been set aside.
