Automate Download Guide on Weekly Basis?

Hi, my Guide data is not downloaded automatically, and the Guide data is emptied out every week that I have to manually trigger the Download Guide data. I don't know why the Guide data is emptied out every week, I don't know if it's because I auto shutdown my DVR (NAS) at night and auto start at noon everyday that causes it.

But when the Guide is empty, all my recording schedule would not kick in. So, I would like to see if there is a script of a feature that I can auto-download the Guide data. Any suggestions?

I’m sure there’s a script you could run but my suggestion would be to just leave the DVR on 24/7. Having it turn off and back on automatically every day is probably doing more harm to the hardware than good.

My NAS (DVR) has all SSD installed, no mechanical HD. I thought it's good for the SSD to be powered off during non-use period (night time) to prolong its life. No?

This is why. Guide data updates happen every morning. Your server is never updating guide data because you have the computer turned off. That’s why your guide data runs out.

Channels DVR server requires an always on computer. Keep your computer on.

Ok, I see. May I suggestion a feature request? Can every time the DVR starts, the DVR checks if the Guide data is older than 5 days (x days), and triggers to download a fresh copy of Guide data? This would help serve some of the users like me who has schedule power off/on everyday. Is it possible?

This is why I keep my server PC always on. A NAS like that should be able to handle staying on all the time.

While we can look at this, you’re still not fulfilling the requirements of the software, and you can’t expect things to work right unless you do.

I've seen many discussions online that debate the pros vs. cons of your approach, and the consensus seems to be that NAS servers especially are designed to be left on 24/7, and the work you're introducing by having it turn off and back on every day, isn't actually providing tangible, real-world benefit, and isn’t worth the extra hassle it introduces to the task it’s responsible for handling.
