There is an annoying issue that has been around for quite some time that rears its ugly head every so often when there is a show trailer that is recorded for an upcoming show that has a pass. This happens a lot with AMC.
Example - last night there was a 10 minute walking dead trailer for the upcoming season.
There are two issues.
1: the commercial detection algorithms dont do the best job when these mini trailer episodes are recorded. These can be clips that are from 2 minutes to 10 minutes.
2: when automatic commercial skipping is enabled (in my case its a server side setting which makes it even more cumbersome) the entire “short” trailer recording is entirely skipped to the end, making it unplayable unless the automatic commercial skipping is disabled.
The “episode” is also marked as watched, when in actuality it was skipped until the end
Is there a way to add some kind of detection for recorded trailers?
When playing back these recordings it would be nice to bypass automatic commercial skipping. Alternatively, if there were somewhere in the “more” menu a “enable trailer mode”, that coukd save a ton of steps just to disable automatic commercial skipping, then watch the recording, and then reenable automatic commercial skip. 99% of the time i use automatic commercial skip (because it works so well In channels) , so ive got it set up as a server side setting. Even without server side setting it is still cumbersome to temporarily change it to manual and then turn back to automatic just to watch a 2 minute clip. So i find myself just deleting these when it be cool to easily watch them with manual commercial skipping.
Sometimes the episode title even includes the word trailer, but im not sure this happens all the time with the different networks. The DVR PASS is picking it up as a new episode
