Automatic Remote DVR Refresh?

Every so often I am unable to connect with my DVR remotely. When I get home, I find all I have to do to get it back is to disable and reenable the "Remote DVR" Automatic setting on the web GUI.

The pisser is that I don't know it's broken until I'm away from home, and there's nothing I can do about it.

Is there a way to tell the DVR to automatically do the Remote DVR Disable/Enable sequence, say, once a day? For instance, if there's an http API call to do this, I could put it in a cron job on the server.

Can you use Teamviewer for remote access to the server and reset/restart it from there? I frequently use Teamviewer for maintenance tasks on my Windows-based DVR server.

Why not just set it to manual and then set the port forwarding in your router?
I make sure UPNP is disabled on everything I own.
