I was able to connect to my HDHomeRun via Channels app and DirecTv from an AppleTv not at my home location. Yippee! Channels DVR running on iMac in my home. So I can get my local channels and regional sports networks at 2nd home.

Out of curiosity, what is your upstream bandwidth at the home running Channels server?
40 mbps

Away From Home access is a feature built into the DVR.
On the DVR server, turn Remote Access to On
On the Channels DVR client app, click Connect to DVR and select Away From Home.
