Bad guide data for Canberra, Australia - using data from DVB question

I installed Channels on my ATV4 a few days ago and noticed the guide data was wrong for many of the channnels. With Channels 2.0 with the new grid guide (very nice work!) I decided to investigate and found a post about bad UK EPG data.

I have changed the data to be retrieved from DVB and it now looks better.

How can we control the retrieval of DVB data? In Australia each channel only has their schedule so you need to tune in to each channel to get the full EPG. Is it possible to get Channels to retrieve data for each channel (obviously only when a tuner is available).

In Austalia their are five TV stations so it would need to tune in to five channels to get all the data.

NOTE: I am not an expert but it matches what I observe and what I read a few years ago when one of the TV stations wanted to prevent third parties publishing their data and went to court claiming copyright (they lost but the third party company ended up bankrupt a year or two later).

There is no way to download DVB guide automatically at the moment. It’s tricky because it can only happen while the app is active, but not in use and the tuners are also not in use.

When you tune in, though, it should download 7 days of data within in a few minutes. So it’s not something you need to do every day… after a day or two of using the app it will download most of it, and keep up to date as you watch more TV.

It looks like using the DVB data is the only option in Australia.

The three option I saw are Silicon Dust (lots of errors), gracenote and DVB.

Is gracenote available for Australia?

Yes, select the Gracenote option and then click “select tv provider” to the right of your hdhomerun to enter your location. If you don’t see your region on the list, email [email protected] and we can add it.

Australia/Canberra is on the list. However I have no data from some channels. Hopefully that will settle down.

One problem I have with the grid guide - if no data exists for a channel I cannot select it from the guide.

Email our support and we can fix the missing channels in the Gracenote database.

I have found a few wrong channels in the gracenote guide for canberra. I will email support with the list of corrections needed.

SiliconDust has launched a new guide provider for UK and Australia today, so I recommend you switch back to “EPG from SiliconDust” for the best data.

I will try the other EPG data.
