Basic Directions

Hello I’m sorry if this has been covered but for some reason I haven’t been able to effectively search to find it. I just got the DVR service and I would just like an “instruction manual”…how do I record, how do I view etc…

if anyone could point me to this info I would greatly appreciate it.

Documentation is pretty lacking right now. That’s one of the big things we want to address during the beta.

Once you get the DVR features showing up on the Apple TV, it should be pretty straightfoward to figure out how everything works. It sounds like maybe that isn’t working for you yet?

Did you get the DVR software installed? Did you click “Set DVR Lineup” under your hdhomerun to setup guide data, after picking a recordings location and checking the Enable DVR box?

Welcome @Mikchek!

As we’re progressing through the Public Beta period, we’re still working on a lot of things. One of those is documentation. So, sorry there’s nothing to read through yet, but it’s definitely on its way.

For now I can walk you through a couple things. The easiest way to set up recurring Series Passes is by simply searching for a favorite show. The search tab in Channels will let you do this.

Once you’ve found a show, you can pick a single airing to schedule it to record, or create a Series Pass to record all of them or just the new ones. You can eve do the same thing for your favorite teams.

If you’d like to record an upcoming show you see in the grid guide, just select it and you will be promoted for recording options. You can even record a show while you’re watching it by swiping down and picking the record button.

Once you’ve recorde a few things, you can find them in the Recordings tab in Channels.

I hope this helps as a quick on boarding. Docs are coming soon, promise!

3 posts were split to a new topic: I have a question about recording quality

Thank you so much…I have gotten everything hooked up now and you are right it is pretty self explanatory.

I have the DVR functionality on one tv but not the others…am I doing something wrong?

Try quitting and restarting the app. Click the TV/Home button on the remote twice and swipe up.

I changed routers and now I lost the DVR functionality in my Channels program…I still can get to it on my computer through the browser and I can even record there too but its not coming up on any of my apple tvs

I’ve had to pull the power on my Apple TVs before. I also have MoCA adapters and had to pull their power too.

You might need to renew/refresh your network settings in the Apple TV since the new router could be using a different IP scheme. Usually those are set to update after 24 hours so you have to force it when you get a new router.

I cloned the old router so it should have been good…and the apple tv actually has a static IP…NONE of my 5 ATVs are working. Channels is working fine but just not the DVR aspect

If all your ATVs have been rebooted, the restart the bonjour service.

Yea try unchecking and rechecking the bonjour checkbox

where is that?

On the DVR web UI (http://127.0.0.1:8089) there’s a checkbox next to Bonjour

ok its back now…thanks

Is there something I can do about it not skipping commercials? It actually plays commercials and skips parts of the show

On all recordings, or only some shows and channels?

I can honestly say I don’t know if it is ALL as I haven’t tested it but I also haven’t noticed it either so I would guess it is some shoes on some channels
