Best Android Based Client

I played around with it for a full day before deciding to return it. I could deal with the remote issue where it would take about 5 seconds to react to my input, but the HDR color issue was just too much. After searching around on the Tivo Community forum, being stuck in HDR full time is a known issue with the TS4K. They've promised a fix for this but have yet to deliver. The sad thing is that when it's in HDR and you are watching 4K video, it doesn't even work properly. They acknowledge that as well. When I'm watching a 4K Youtube video and the TS4K was in HDR mode, the colors were so muted compared to my FS4K and the Youtube app on my Samsung TV. Hopefully, they will get the HDR issue fixed soon, but I can't use it the way it is now.

that's very strange, because i haven't seen that issue either (and i've had my TS4K for about a month now)...knock on wood, i guess.

Geez, if I ever get this. Maybe I will gift it for Christmas for somebody. Lol!

I use nvidia shield. What is wolf launcher and why would I want to use it?

Wolf Launcher lets you take control of your home screen and you can select the only apps that you want to be shown. There are no "suggestion ads" displayed all over the screen.

Apple tv is coming to Android tv. First to the Google TV chromecast and later to the rest of Android tv.

Wolf is only an app drawer though, correct? It doesn't have app rows like the standard android launcher which you can completely customize to your liking after de-tivo'ing it. Don't see the point of just a list of apps. I like the app rows. If I wanted just an app list I could do the CCGTV in app only mode.

Quick follow up regarding the TS4k with Channels, I'm seeing an occasional issue with the remote responsiveness, curious if this is common. It feels like it's sometimes losing connection/ignoring the remote inputs for a few seconds.

I recently watched a recorded football game where I rapidly skipped forward in 10 second increments to only view the action, not the waiting between plays. It's a 3h 30m recording that I'm consuming in about 60 min (don't judge, it's fun.)

The Tivo Stream would sometimes stop responding to remote control button presses for about 3-5 seconds. Press forward (or backward), nothing happened. Press again, nothing. Then it comes back, and may or may not do what I asked with the most recent press. When it responded, it became snappy and responsive, but the pattern would repeat a few minutes later, again and again. This became pretty annoying.

Is this a known thing with the TS4k? I haven't tried replicating on a second TS4k TV yet.

I should note that I don't see this at all when streaming Netflix, Disney, Prime, etc. The remote interaction to play/pause/skip is immediate then. Of course, I'm not hitting fast forward every few seconds or minutes when streaming a show.

Seems you get what you pay for, I have tried (and returned) several including TivoStream4k and I have found that the Shield is the best - IMHO

Use a shield for a little while then try to go back to something like a firestick. Everything else is too slow for me in comparison.

Verizon has a new Stream TV box .. Has a full usb port wish it was usb3.

That looks identical to the stock Vizio TV remote.....

Fwiw, I decided the TS4K remote connection is fine. As long as it stays pointed at the TV, it works quickly and consistently. It requires a tiny change in behavior to be more cognizant of that.

Net: I'm back to being very happy with the TS4K overall with Channels. The remote design and integration with Channels makes it a winner.

So I got the stream 4K installed.

Wow this sucker is pretty good so far.

How do I use the back button or a button to go to the last channel?

Use the Live button.

This loads the tivo stream app to live tv.

Not if you've disabled the TiVo apps and their customizations. Otherwise, you can press OK/Select twice quickly to go to the previous channel.

So far this is working good. However, it does seem buggy overall.

  • sometimes scrolling using the channel up/down button messes up. The highlight disappears and I can’t move around until I move out of guide and back in
  • throughout the device doesn’t matter the app, I sometimes run into triple commands being sent. Up ends up sending that command several times. This happens with both the remote and the android app on my phone. Seems like an OS bug

Lastly, after disabling tivo apps and setting the animation speed, the device is pretty quick now.

Overall not bad for the price. Will it become my Apple TV replacement, maybe.... I miss out on seeing my iP cameras via HomeKit....
