So watching football today, the green is washed out with the tivo. I watch the same channel on Apple TV and it’s nice and vibrant!
I hear there is a HDR fix. Will this fixed the washed out look?

I think so It will be able to switch from HDR to SDR.
Perhaps you should post this question in the thread related to tivo, or use the search to find other threads that may have the answer to you specific issue, that is not related to this topic thread.
Can anyone comment on the performance of the new Chromecast w/ GoogleTV to replace a non-4k Firestick (tank) as the bedroom streamer.
Please no arguments about the ads, and aggregation, etc, I'll be running it in apps-only mode with a shortcut to the play store.
I've read this entire thread simply by following it for a while, but I think I'm just grasping for validation on pretty much deciding to buy one soon. I'm staying on the AndroidTV ecosystem because that's what my GF is used to, and I like AndroidTV.
The choice would be between the Chromecast, or some other ATV Stick, any SHIELD model excluded since I have a Pro already running the server. Just need a good wireless streamer based on AndroidTV.
EDIT - I'm trying not to exceed $100 or so.
Thanks.
The 4K fire stick is a massive performance upgrade over the "old" non-4K one (I'm assuming you don't have the newest non-4K one from a few months ago). If you like that, but are replacing for performance concerns only, it's at least worth a try.
I'm gonna have to be honest with you, when I read what you wrote it kinda went through my head why did you suggest a better Firestick when I said AndroidTV. It seems that in my head Amazon has garbled up Android enough that I can't consider it AndroidTV. Guess I'm stuck with the new Chromecast for $50 which is pefect considering what it would be used for, a simple streamer.
Fair, but you did put a "some other ATV stick" in your options.
I only suggested because your question sounded performance-based, and I've had channels on both 4K and non-4K fire sticks - the difference is massive. I'm almost at the point of throwing out my non-4K one, because every time i power it on, it reminds me of how crap it is.
The $50 chromecast vs the (right now) $50 4K fire tv stick is probably a good lean to the chromecast, but the stick goes on sale for $40, or less, often.
No, it's my bad. I should have mentioned that a better Fire device is also out of the question. Business practices aside, I think of Amazon as a more open Apple when it comes to tinkering with their devices, and moddability is a necessary factor when buying any new devices. I need to be able to do something to it. Load up TWRP and a custom ROM, debloat it at least. Anything. And when the focus is on keeping us from doing that kind of stuff, I tend to stop buying their products. I'm really disappointed with the custom development for streaming devices. Miles behind a phone, despite being Android.
Got confirmation the updates rolls in in a few weeks with fixes, one of which is the HDR issue.
Yay
Yes. That's the point of the fix, to auto enable hdr. Works well so far on mine. Though my TS4k seems a little slow to get back to the home screen.
Sorry. Not irrelevant. And I've seen enough of your pointed posts to know you don't speak for the masses. Funny to think you think you do when the vast majority don't care about creating android tv on a raspberry pi. Yet you mentioned it quite a few times when it seems like most want something that just works.
To add.... Many channels users are cord cutters that have OTA and streaming services in lieu of cable. So the fact you think the it's irrelevant and superfluous is laughable. Good day sir.
You're speaking to one such user. And as I said ads are ads I don't care what you call them agree to disagree and move on.
The default TiVo launcher is similar to Googles TV, with all its aggregation and tabs for various content.
The de-tivo version, with the current updated Android TV Home app, is near identical to the "apps only" mode of the CCGTV. Has the full background image and upper 1/4 text ad for some movie/show etc, with the Your apps bar below it. These are the only 2 things on the screen, once u remove the other suggestion bars.
The CCGTV, is decent in zippyness, if u enable dev option, and reduce the animations to .5. Storage is limited with less than 3GB available once u install typical apps. U will need to spend another $40~ (or more) to buy a decent usb hub with PD passthrough, and a usb to ethernet adapter (to hardwire), and a usb stick, and deal with the dongle/cord mess to expand its usability. Its not worth the close to $100 once all that is said and done. By them u might as well pony up and buy the Shield tube for $149.
The remote, feels just like a Roku remote(with no headphone jack), infact, the volume buttons seems to be exact same place. Wish it was backlit, and had proper play/pause buttons. The TiVo wins hands down for its remote (even though it is not backlit like the Shield remote)
I have had several times where apps just do not appear in the Play store unless u search for them several times. And side loading is a pain having to use some janky wifi transfer app, if you dont have the usb hub setup.
CCGTV, just as the TiVO, is lacking in the detailed Display and sound options that the Shield has. I can't set the 4:4:4 YUV 8bit rec709, so it looks washed out in comparison. No options for what audio formats to use, only thing is surround off or on.
Its a Chromecast first, and streaming device 2nd. That is also obvious based on how they named it, Chromecast with Google TV, NOT Google TV with Chromecast. I do see a few tech news articles from CES, about TCL and some other brands moving over to GTV in their 2021 models, replacing Android TV models.
Both have their own issues. There are issues with Tivo, and flickering, and its hardware decoder, can only be fixed by Tivo. There are issue reported here of Channles app and crashing on CCGTV and a few other issues.
People have occasional issues even with the all mighty Nvidia Shield....no device is perfect.
But, Op asked what is the BEST Android based client, that would be the Nvidia Shield. (price is not a factor in the the question see title)
Thinking this thread as been exhausted ?
Clearly there is no single best android tv client. They all have pros and cons and you have to pick your poison.
