Greetings all. Have an HDHomerun Extend on order and am trying to figure out my best combination for Channels DVR. I have the following options to run Channels DVR:
- Intel NUC Skull Canyon - record on USB hard drive
- Intel NUC Skull Canyon - record on Synology drive via network mount
- Synology DS1511+ (INTEL Atom D525 w/1G RAM) - not sure if this is powerful enough
Option 3 would be ideal. I just don’t know if the nearly three year old Synology is capable especially if I move up to 4 tuners.
Not sure about option 1 or 2. When setup as option 2, does the DVR work by getting the stream from the HDHomerun and then resending it to the RAID drive? If so, that would appear to double network traffic. It seems as if option 1 would be my best alternate solution if option 3 doesn’t work.
Ultimately, I plan to build a FreeNAS around a Xeon, but that’s several months off. If there is an upcoming ATV5 with 4K support, I’m hoping that the ATV5 + the FreeNAS would become my ultimate media interface to everything.
