BETA: Experimental Guide view for Android

I just wanted to give some feedback. I noticed at times when selecting the first channel in the guide, it's sometimes hard to navigate left to get to like recordings and such. It's almost like it seems to get stuck.

There are so many peculiarities to the autoplay function that it makes my head spin. I don't really use autoplay. I just want the episodes to play in order and return to the series menu as it should.

This happens in the stable release. It gets stuck when I try to navigate left to the menu sidebar from any of the other pages, including the guide. It seems that the more I use CDVR, the more things I find that do not function correctly.

It's really on Android. It's not much of an issue on Apple TV.
The Android client has these quirks but the Apple TV client really doesn't.

The Android quirks are becoming very frustrating. For my type of viewing, I can't tolerate the beta. Even the stable release has considerable problems. Several times I have reported serious functionality issues, and none have been addressed. I have been considering replacing one of my Shields with Apple TV 4k to compare the difference for myself.

Honestly, it's not that big of a deal for me, so I'm going to stick with the Shield, but I have an Apple TV sitting in the closet if it does become a big deal.

Agree. Sometimes it's difficult to get in/out of the collections button too. I could go on and on but just wish one or more of the developers used Android TV devices and Android phones daily so can get fixes/updates/improvements on a lot of the basic stuff. CDVR is overall very good but a few repairs and polishing here and there would make it AWESOME (for ATV and Android users)...

Yeah, I prefer to stick with my Shield devices, too. We have four main TV's we use, all of which have android boxes, two are Shield. I'm concerned that If I like Apple TV better, I'll end up with four new boxes at $150 a pop. I don't like the idea of a $600 + tax investment just to replace hardware which mostly does it's job fairly well.

I personally have the inclination that something is being worked on and we're just not aware of it. I highly doubt that they would let the Android client just rot. All the sudden we're getting a flurry of new test features. Clearly there's a new version in development and just not ready yet because this is a small team of developers maintaining a fairly large code base. I would just give them time. I'm sure we are getting a new version for Android at some point. It's just a matter of when I would imagine and they probably haven't responded to anyone's inquiries about it because you want don't want to over promise and under deliver. You want to work quietly in the background build something awesome and make your customers happy in the end.

That's possible but also unlikely at the same time.

That's a pretty pessimistic view.

My brain works via logic. Hope for the best, expect the worst. Less chance of disappointment...

I hope that wasn't meant to imply that my brain does not work via logic as well...

Nope just been around here a long time...

Okay. I just wanted to make sure because it could read both ways. I was hoping for the more optimal reading of it, so no hard feelings or anything. Hopefully good things happen in the future.

Don't get rid of your Shield devices. I was playing with my Apple TV for about a day and just flipped on my Shield, and I have to say, with the AI upscaling, the picture is noticeably sharper. Like it is not even a contest. I wear glasses, I have terrible eyesight, and I can totally see a difference on the same content. The Apple TV just does not look as good as the Shield.

That's interesting. I'm not sure if I have tried the AI upscaling on the Shield. I suppose that I ought to look for it to make a comparison.

In keeping with the intended subject matter of this thread, I would like to see what the "experimental guide view" adds to the CDVR Android Experience. I just can't get past the wonkiness of the Android beta interface long enough to use it as my daily driver.

Sharper isn't better. If what you're viewing is sharper than the source then that's too sharp. It's a preference thing kinda like the soap opera effect. Some like it, some don't. I hate it.

I'm happier with the PQ coming out of the SHIELD than the ATV after viewing both. Personal preference.:slightly_smiling_face:

Please keep the thread on topic.
