I searched the forum but didn’t come up with anything meaningful. Is there a way to bookmark a location in a show? I would like to mark a news segment to show to my wife later. I realize that this would be an additional bookmark than the commercial ones (if there are any yet).
No, not really. You can watch the program and cue it to the start of the segment, and then back out of playback. Then when you go back to play the program, it will start where you left off.

We use this all the time on our DirecTV DVR. Besides the "show something to someone else" (which is our main use), it's also handy for marking your place where you stopped if someone else might watch the same recording.
(DirecTV's bookmarks are easy. You just push the green button while watching, and you get a bookmark at that spot. Their weakness is that there isn't a way to delete a bookmark you've made.)
