Bug:/Feature Request: "Live" button actions Edit: "Live TV" also impacted

I am running a TiVo Stream 4k, so I don't know how this applies to other devices. I am specifically talking about the "Live" remote button, but it appears that the software has the concept of a virtual "Live" button as well. They may be tied to the same thing or not.

Edit: I did verify that the mapped "Live TV" function to a color button has the same behavior. I updated the title as well. I presume that means that all Android TV devices are impacted.

Definitions:
Current channel: The currently viewed live channel or the last viewed live channel if none is playing.
Previous channel: The channel tuned previous to the current channel.

Here is the current behavior for pressing the Live button (partially from memory):
From full screen live TV: Toggles to Previous channel
From anywhere else w/o PiP showing: Starts full screen live TV with Previous channel (BUG)
With PiP showing: Toggles to Previous channel within the PiP

Requested behavior of the Live button:
From full screen live TV: Toggles to Previous channel
From anywhere else w/o PiP showing: Starts full screen live TV with Current channel (BUG fix)
With PiP showing single click: Return to full screen live TV with Current channel
With PiP showing long press: Close PiP
Optional: With PiP showing double click: Toggles to Previous channel within the PiP

Thanks,
Josh

Edit2: I had a made a copy paste error when describing the functionalities. I fixed it by removing the "within the PiP" from the "Fromfull screen live TV" lines. Sorry about that.

I purchased a 3rd party remote to test to be sure the issue was not an odd behavior to the Live button on the Tivo remote. I configured Channels to use one of the color buttons for the Live TV function. All behaviors were the same. It had the same behavior where it wouldn't go to the last channel, but the one before it. Basically it acts to bring up live tv, then toggles to the previous channel immediately. (The noted bug in the original post.)

Please fix. Pretty please.

Thanks,
Josh

Note, there was one time that I hit the color button and it made the PiP go full screen. It didn't change the tuned channel. Subsequent presses wouldn't change the tuned channel either. I don't know how I got that to happen and I couldn't get it to happen again. I may have been dreaming it.

Here are instructions on how to verify the bug part of the issue:
Initial Experience and Issues - Channels Android TV - Channels Community (getchannels.com)

Here is another user verifying that the behavior exists for them.

Josh

I can confirm that it does the same thing on my TS4K. I've not had a chance to try it on my Apple TV yet, but will try to do that today. PiP is a little wonky to me so I gave up on it with the Apple TV probably within 5 minutes of using it. I've not tried it on the TS4K at all.

The play/pause button on my remote for Shield, as well as the usb remote I use , double press it, and it also switches back and forth between channels last tuned.

About your process, why are you backing out to the full guide by using the botton on the remote?

Why not use the quick guide while watching live, to view what is on and change channel that way...that is how it is meant to be used and why its there. To quick view guide info and change channels.

Does this live button behavior still happen when you use the quick quide to change channels, vs using the Guide button to go to the full guide page?

How about when you back out to the guide, using the back button, instead of the Guide button?

Ok...so.....I have noticed something.

My tivo was not updated, it updated.

Now, it is exhibiting this behavior with the buttons as you describe.

And also, I forgot to mention, there is a far more serious issue with the TiVo and its buttons, in that when you press the power button on the remote, it also press play, but still turns off the tv, so many times, my mother has gone to bed, and the tivo is streaming live tv, using a tuner, but the tv is off.
I made a report on that while back...

In this case to avoid hitting back, which would trigger PiP if turned on. The same thing happens if you have PiP off and hit back and navigate to the guide or other input. This was just showing how to reproduce the issue with as few clicks as possible and avoiding some other behaviors.

Many reasons including guide preference. An important one would be to look through upcoming shows to set to record, then return to the show.

It would but to see it you have to get away from full screen live. I fully accept the last channel functionality while viewing full screen live (TiVo something similar cycling through tuners on the main unit.)

Same problem, just wanted it to show the problem if you had PiP turned on. (With PiP, it toggles the show within the PiP, which I think is wrong as well, but could be a behavior...)

Thanks for checking it out. I hope they take care of this nit.

I will have to keep an eye out for that one. I haven't noticed it, but I was lazy when i set this up. If I turn off the TV, the TV Stream turns off, because I used the USB port on the TV. I will fix that, but I need a power strip with an additional plug. With that configuration, it is a non-issue for me.

The TV I'm using USB port only outputs 300ma... It's an old crappy small TV...And the TiVo needs one amp. Also there's the problem of it taking forever to boot up when you have that kind of setup.
But that for sure would indeed mitigate the issue of its streaming in the background.

for now and seen as it's not really something channels can fix apparently since I got no real useful response to it.... Is that I keep having to tell any users of it to fully back out of the channels app to the app menu page.

Are you saying that if you're full screen watching TV and hit Live, it starts PIP instead of simply changing channels?

I completely mucked that one up. Sorry to waste your effort on it. That should have read "From full screen live TV: Toggles to Previous channel," which is how it works and how I think was intended, so we are all good there.

From the other post in the other thread you covered the two bolded changes I requested here. They are fixed in the Beta. The long press and double click things were a bit of a stretch.

Thanks again,
Josh
