This is a weird one. In fact I am not sure how to even describe the problem but here goes...
When I watch a football game using Channels DVR via my AppleTV everything sounds just fine until I use my airpods. (I have to do this because my wife is always yelling at me "use your airpods so I don't have to listen to that crap all day")
Anyway, when I listen via the airpods I am unable to hear anything the play-by-play guys are saying. I can hear the crowd noise and any commercials that come on just fine but the guys calling the game are silent.
Since it only happens when using the Channels DVR app on AppleTV I typically just switch to watching on my iPad because airpods work fine using the Channels DVR app on that.
