Can I have Channels data on local SSD & Recorded TVshows on large spinning drive?

I would like to prevent TVshows from recording to the small MacOS SSD drive, have all recordings written to slow spinning media and keep the configs, DB and executable on the fast ssd drive. I have seen references to symlinks in the community but was hoping for a simpler setup inside the application. -Bill

This is the default configuration. You don't need to do anything.

The references you have seen for symlinks is related to keep the streaming folder on the SSD and the symlink to it on the recording drive which has the streaming there by default. That is the way I run mine streaming and transcoding on ssd.

BTW Bill good to see you on this forum ... I am also NYPLAYER in the old SageTV forums.

What I am seeing as my default is the ChannelsDVR folder is on the OS Drive and in that folder is Database, Images, Imports, Logs, Playon, Streaming and TV folders. The TV Folders are filled with recorded TV shows. I also found TV Shows recorded into my user folder on the OS disk from 5 days ago, the day I set this up /Users/myname/Movies/TV/TV folder. -Bill

Where specifically? Can you screenshot?

What I'm seeing on your account is that those folders were setup to use /Volumes/MAC_TV_DRIVE/ChannelsDVR which is presumably an external drive.

Yes, I turned off the CDVR and moved them to that external drive after I was able to format it with the Apple Journal-ed file system. Originally I used ExFAT and that failed horribly. I moved it there today in an attempt to be proactive and not fill up the Mac OS drive when I realized there wasn't a way to prevent it from filling that drive up with recorded shows.

The actually binary and databases are installed by default onto the drive you run the installer from.

Where recordings are saved are separately chosen when you choose your DVR storage location when you setup the server after installation. (Also, the DVR storage location can be arbitrarily changed after installation at any time through the DVR web UI.)

Now that you have moved your recordings path to your external storage, it is doing exactly what you requested in your original post.

The system directory is showing a TV directory because you were using that path originally. So...it's still there.

It sounds like at one point you pointed your DVR directory to that path, and the same explanation applies.

Channels DVR Server will record to the path you told it to record to. All system files are installed on the OS disk.

fyi - there are external SSD drives that are not that expensive these days - vs that "spinning" drive. Just saying.

Yup, but I don't need an SSD for the shows. Videos don't read or write that quickly. Spinning media is cheap, and I had it, so it was even cheaper still.
