Is there a way to do this? I have quite a few recordings made before moving onto Channels DVR and it would be nice to have them all show up in the app.
This isn’t possible, sorry. Our apps expect a very specific file format which only our DVR generates.
A small workaround, though not perfect since you would be missing Channels’s finesse, would be to use plex in addition as well and point plex to the SDDVR recordings folder. You can also add the Channels recording folder as well and that would give you the ability to keep the old SDDVR recordings viewable via plex on the ATV4 in a uniform interface (as long as you don’t mind the plex interface)…
Thanks for replies. I had a feeling it was a tall order. I was thinking of either going the Plex route or converting them to play through iTunes/Computers. I’ve been reluctant to run the Plex server with the Channels one. My machine is a 2010 iMac so I didn’t know how it would handle both.
Infuse is another good option - it will play just about anything.
To revive an old thread...
Years later, is this answer still correct? The Channels website seems to imply that one can add recordings from other DVR systems into the Channels library, but I can't get it to recognize my HDHR DVR folder. Any updated info here or is it still not possible?
Depends on how the HDHR DVR organizes the recordings on disk.
If Movies and TV Shows are in separate directories and comply with the requirements of Channels it should work. Channels expects your local content to be named, stored, and organized in a structured way.

I got it sorted! I had to assign channels permissions (I'm using Synology DSM 7) to the HDHR DVR folder specifically. The file naming, etc doesn't seem to be a problem.
