Can I use my router USB for SSD storage?

I have a Netgear R7000 router with a USB 3.0 input on the front and a few more on the back.
I currently have an SSD connected to my computer that I use for Channels DVR storage. I was wondering if I could move it to my router to free up a USB port on my computer?
If I do move it, will all my current programs be preserved?
Any help here is appreciated.
