Cancelling stream after no data was received for 6s

Were you seeing the same cancel stream after no data error I am seeing?

No.
All I saw was the stream breaking up, pixelating, stopping, starting, always bad.
I did not look at logs etc, I knew it was the signal stuff that was bad.
Had to use Ch 6003 for CBS

Thanks for the information. How did you use the HDHR tool to troubleshoot? I am not seeing signal break up only sudden Channels message saying it had a problem and press ok to reconnect.

As an update, I ran the test on the dual tuner Connect HDHR all day yesterdady without a problem all day. My wife left the kitchen tv on when she left for work and and when I went in there for lunch I had the disconnect message. I am not sure what is going on but it is sporadic at best. Very hard to troubleshoot.

I started the problem channel, Ch 10.
I then started the HDHR configuration app I showed.
I clicked in the Tuner that Ch 10 was using, tuner 0, and it filed in that grid for signal strength, quality etc
It was easy to see the pblm.
The “Quality” numbers were way less than 100.
And changing up, down.
I thought it was the station and left messages for the engineer but he never replied.
I eventually used the inside rabbit ears while 10 was failing which was constant, never a steady picture.
As soon as I plugged in that antenna to a tv the picture was perfect on that tv.
I knew it must be the attic antenna, because the HDHR feed was still breaking up on the main tv.
.
I’m not sure if it’s your pblm as I never had the lost connection.
Just go to Walmart and get a $16 ONN rabbit ears, that’s what I use, put as high as you can, aim.

I think his Televes antenna is much better than that Walmart rabbit ears.
Since his issues are sporadic and on multiple channels on both HDHR's (as can be seen in his logs), it won't help watching the HDHR config app.

What test? Using what?

What was the kitchen tv using, the HDHR app or the Channels app?

Do you have static ip address on the channels DVR server?
I had a case where my server kept randomly switching between Wi-Fi connection and direct connect.
Two different IP’s.
Kept randomly losing connection.
Reason:
It kept switching from Wifi to Direct connect because of a loose connection for the direct connect.
Activity near that connection would bump the wire and it would connect/disconnect and switch back and forth from wifi to direct connection, different IP addresses for these two connections causes Lost Connection.

Apologies. From my post on HDHR forums a user gave this suggestion:

Start by watching side by side on the HDHomeRun app and Channels, preferably with just one HDHomeRun on to eliminate a variable. If only Channels goes out, then it's probably an issue with the DVR server or software. If both go out at the same time, then it's probably not the server, but may be the network, the HDHomeRun, or reception.

Kitchen tv using channels so the same 6 sec issue happened while I did not have another tuner on to confirm from the above test. We normally don't leave that tv on so it was by chance that I noticed.

This is frustrating to not be able to capture the problem to look for a solution.

Could also be EMI. Have you bought and installed anything electrical recently? Like an LED light, appliances, a roomba vacuum, ect. motion lights are notorious for EMI. If you have close neighbors check with them on any new electrical additions.

Are you positive that both HDHR's have the same problem?

A quick check of the logs he posted shows that.

That looks like poor reception on that Channel ... I wonder if that is a subchannel of 15.1 and how the reception is on 15.1. 2 Different devices same Channel so my bet is on poor reception of that channel.

HDHomerun config will show if the channel reception is going up and down ...

Yes as @chDVRuser shows from my logs.

Happens on other stations too. Not just 15.1. You can see more examples in the log file I posted at https://dpaste.org/XfZJP

I have no way to predict when this error will happen so by natural rule I will not be looking at the screen when this event occurs. I tried running the test I mentioned above all day a day ago and no occurrences but it did happen once the following day. Some days this is very frequent. It's very frustrating to catch these as they happen but I can assure you that the breaks happen often enough to be annoying and to prompt this post.

I had not noticed but isn't it odd that I am getting failures on the two devices at nearly the exact same time for the 2024/09/03 17:38:01 instance? That is the time of one of my scheduled recordings (NBC Nightly News) and maybe we were watching it live and the recording in progress and it failed.

I don't know if this gives any additional information as it could be either a signal issue or a network/server/channels issue.

Day and time of day failing with container restarts

Simple grep and sort

If it were me, I would run the low level test on the 4th tuner of your Quatro from the Mac and let it run all day. Using a channel that is failing a lot.

@Dinki
Wow looks like a big Problem ... maybe moving the HDHomeRun tuners to a different area will help.... also make sure you are using high quality shielded coax/ethernet cables.

That recording failed and had to switch tuners.

Honestly at this point I would work on figuring out what isnt the problem by process of elimination. I had a similar situation with 1 channel a couple of years ago and it tuned out to be my antenna. It was a high VHF station and it would randomly go out. Replaced the antenna and i have had zero issues since.

You know that the HDHR's arent an issue because it is highly unlikely that both of them failed at one time. Working backwards that leaves the antenna, coax, and connectors.

I would swap out the antenna just to rule it out. Go with a basic antenna, minimal amount of electronics as possible. This is the one i have. Its a chinese knockoff of a channel master. If you buy it today there are prime day discounts. If it turns out not to be the antenna then you can just return it.

If the problem happens after that then replace the RG6 coax.

Sorry, I thought this was funny!

Other than that, it seems like a decent design for UHF and high VHF.

Ha! I've seen 250mi before. I should be able to get channels from 5 markets where i live. But hey at aleast its 4k, i wont buy any antenna that isnt. Lol
