Cannot connect to Discovery via Sling

Fairly new user. I subscribe to "cable channels" via Sling. On the Sling website, and via the app, all expected channels are available, including Discovery + which I pay for. However, when TVE scans Sling, it misses many of the channels that I expect, the most grievous being Discovery. Am I just doing something wrong? Does Discovery not export via TVE? Do I need to subscribe to the ad-free version?

Any advice would be very helpful. TIA (Thanks in advance).

Unfortunately sling has probably the worst tv everywhere (tve) support of all services. Here is a link of the channels sling has chosen to give you access to via tve.

Thank you - this confirms what I an seeing. If I am doing everything right and this is as good as it gets from Sling, I think I have a few options:

  1. use Sling as my app for watching the channels that Sling does not export
  2. Find a different TVE provider
  3. Or try to use PlayOn to download-for-offline viewing the things that the Sling cloud DVR records for me, and teach Channels to find those things in a local library.
Option 3 may be too cute - the solution needs to be bullet proof and "wife-friendly" (no gender bias implied - in this house, I am the techie one :grinning: ).

Anyone have other suggestions?

Option 2. Hulu, Philo, Fubo work well along with YouTube tv when you use a secondary user to avoid the two factor. Directv just got hacked and is experiencing tve issues due to that, not sure if everything is back up with them yet. You can check all the other services at the link above to compare the channels you need with the services that support them via tve. I like Hulu my self as it has almost all channels in the lineup available via tve. Keep in mind you aren’t limited to one, you can also mix and match. Use sling for espn and add philo for discovery and use both at the same time if that makes dollars and cents.

Yeah, thanks Rice - good advice. I will probably go that way. I like the Channels interface. And, I particularly like its ability to one-click skip commercials.

I am still going to play with Plex a bit since I have not used it for quite a while. I would like to end up with a single interface for most of my viewing. But I really like that skip commercials function!
