Cannot login in to Youtube TV (Synology NAS)

I have the latest version of Channels DVR running on a Synology NAS. Standard install and configuration. I keep getting an error message when trying to add YouTube TV as a TVE source. It states "Couldn't sign you in. The browser or app may not be secure. Try using a different browser..."

I've tried all the browsers from my computer and from within the NAS GUI itself, but guessing it is related to the default behind the scenes browser used by the channels app. Is there an easy workaround? None of the articles I have seen on here seem to provide a solution for this issue, but I apologize if I have missed it.

I ran into this problem and the only way I could get it to work was:

  • Created a Docker version of Channels DVR on my desktop computer
  • Copied over my setup to the Docker version (and did a restore)
  • Authenticated to YTTV on the Docker version
  • Copied the new Database back to my existing Channels DVR server

Problem resolved: I created a brand new gmail account and it linked successfully. I have no idea why. No security settings were different than my 3 other gmail accounts that failed to link.
