Can't connect to TV tuner while VPN active

I'm running DVR Server (v2023.09.13.2351) on my personal Win10 laptop where I run many other apps & programs. No problem with that scenario.

However, I cannot start the server while I'm running my VPN on the Win10 system. If I do so, the server fails to connect to my Tablo TV tuner (yes, I have 'Tablo Network Tuner Support' checked).

Thus, the server shows 'No source found'. Doing a DVR network scan fails to find the tuner.

As a workaround solution, I must shutdown the VPN - then do the network scan again which finds the Tablo tuner instantly. I then start the VPN and all is well until the DVR server is restarted for any reason either manually or via Win10 reboot, etc. To be clear, once the server has been started via this workaround, the VPN and DVR Server coexist and run together with no problem.

I'd much rather find a "real" solution to this problem rather than this bothersome workaround solution.

Is there a solution which allows me to run the VPN 24x7 without causing any problem for DVR server when starting/restarting or anytime? TIA

Unchecking the "use default gateway on remote network" under advanced settings of the VPN network connection may do the trick.

This is expected behavior. When you start your vpn, all traffic is routed through the tunnel. The pc is blocked from the local network. You could do split tunneling or local networking with your vpn and this would fix it potentially.

Yes, get your channels server off of your laptop by getting a cheap mini pc, load it up with linux and have a true 24x7 reliable setup.

Thanks! Very useful info.
I agree that running the DVR server on a dedicated machine would solve the problem. However, I'm cheap and don't want to spend the $$$. I do have several old laptops I could use but have doubts the CPUs are up to the task. But worth some research.

Post the specs here.
You will be surprised how little resources are needed to run ChannelsDVR effectively.

Yes!! Split tunneling is the ticket! Couple of clicks and problem solved! Thanks much for mentioning that VPN feature.
