Can't get to DVR Remotely

I can’t seem to get to my DVR from outside my home network. Everything seems to be setup correctly but I can’t get the site to load at all. I can get to my Plex Server from outside my network just not the Channels DVR. I see the port, 8089, being forwarded in my router UPnP settings and I have it turned on in the DVR settings.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,

What do you see when you access port 8089 on your public ip?

I get the following error…

Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding.

What kind of computer/NAS is the DVR installed on?

It is on a Late 2015 iMac with OS X 10.12.3 installed. I see this in my Channels DVR log…
Successfully mapped port external IP Address:8089 using upnp

Strange. Can you verify the IP is correct, by visiting a site like ipchicken.com to compare it?

You can also try unchecking the remote access box, and setting up the port forwarding rule manually.

Yes that did it. I unchecked the remote access box and manually forwarded the port and not it works. Thanks!

Great, sounds like the upnp wasn’t working correctly. What kind of router are you using?

Netgear Nighthawk R7800

FYI, I’m also running a Netgear R7800, with a Synology DS916+. I also see that when I enable remote access from the DVR site, it does not work for some reason. I can see the port listed in the R7800 uPNP settings as expected - just no traffic is getting through.

Just to help isolate the issue, I tried setting up remote access to the Synology management console on port 5000 using uPNP, and that worked as expected (showed up in router uPNP list, and I could indeed access it).

The only other clue I can offer is when I disabled remote access from the DVR site, it did not automatically remove the port from the router’s uPNP list. I expected that it would remove it (the Synology remote access stuff does this as expected).

I should add that I’m not at all worried about this, as I use a VPN for remote access - but since I happened to have the same router, I thought I’d do a little digging to try to be helpful!
