Cantata Haptique RS90 - very universal remote πŸ‘€

some details I read here and here:

Ok so the UI which I have shared earlier in our community allows you to add infrared and Tcp/ip devices without any need of external hub.
Second we support third party integrations like Tuya, Home Assistant and smartthings where most of your smart devices are compatible.
So its up to user if they are happy with our basic functional devices or want to control everything(using third party platform)
Later we will will introduce a smart hub built in our base unit based on Pi-zero.
Also we are strongly advocating Tuya as they will be supporting Matter which supports Alexa, Homekit, Googlehome and Smartthings. Many other hubs like Hubitat and Homey will be also possible to control using their API.
So truly a universal remote.

and here:

Well for us this the idea began of having our first product which is a pain point after Logitech announce discontinuing harmony line.
When we had to assess the possibilities of making it a replacement we took the approach of improving the overall experience it had.
After extensive research and exploration, we decided to partner with manufacturer in Shenzhen. Their expertise in producing IR remotes for well-known brands like JBL, Philips, NEC, and many more convinced us that they are the perfect fit for our project. We have purchased IR database from Huilink which has most of the devices covered.
Q: Will it have an extensive device database of codes for AV equipment so I don't need to go through learning for all of them?
A: We have purchased IR database from Huilink(Shenzhen based database provider) which has most of the devices covered. We are also developing our device web portal for users to register their products and share us the device list they have so incase of any missing IR files we will create and send an update OTA. User will be able to monitor and update their remote via this webportal, for an example webportal will work like microsoft account>devices.
Q: Will it have scenes built-in so watching any source can be one-tap?
A: Oh Yes! Our Ui is basically having this functionality under macros, where user will be able to create command sequences for added devices. We will share our UI plan very soon for discussion. may be next week.
Q: Will it integrate with Home Assistant out-of-the-box?
A: Well we started this project with a different plan but realized HA is so essential to have going forward so yes we have already started the process of controlling HA from our UI from the remote. HA has well documented information to access the frontend using API, so the answer is yes.
Q: Will it be the remote itself sending the IR commands, or will/can it interface with another device/hub? Some people keep gear in a closed cabinet or closet.
A: The old school way, remote possess the IR blaster on head so just point it to device to send IRs. We have a choice of adding IR blaster in the charging dock but we are evaluating the need of it and may add RF in the dock before mass production. For the devices out of line of sight we will offer WIFI IR blaster built on smart plug just plug on any nearby socket and you are done, this plus will work on specific platform like Tuya.

Hmm. I wonder if it will deliver? I'll be keeping an eye out for Cantata. It might take a couple of years but it looks to me like it might be on the right track?

Looks..odd…but can see what they’re going for with the way you would hold it to use the touchscreen.

Always good to see more options available though.

Really interested to see the IP capabilities.

Now on Kickstarter! Pricey, yes, but I have to admit, I’m feeling intrigued.

Man, back in the late 60's, I was the remote control.

For free.

Did your parent's have you turn the TV Knob ? mine did sometimes.(kid remote control)

80s for me but.....
Channel changing +
"Go get some aluminum foil to put on the end of the antenna"
"Hey stop... stand right there and dont move, you made the picture clear up"

90s and 00s at times too for me. I'm usually the one who knows what showing what even without a guide just by memory

Back to the Haptique, I’m impressed Cantata is already integrating with Home Assistant.

Today they released a video walkthrough of the RS90 interface and configuration app:

That's nice. My dream is for custom firmware for my Harmony hub to just let me send HTTP calls to Home Assistant.

I'm not a fan of the shape of that remote at all though. The Harmony companion has been leaps and bounds my favorite remote of all time. Good shape. Good button layout. Grippy texture. Sturdy.

This is the slowest paced video I've ever seen, I can't even get through it :rofl:

I wasn’t either at first, until I saw it acting as a desktop controller when docked:

It has a screen with customizable elements that some may appreciate being able to see when they’re not holding the remote and it’s just sitting on a surface or charging.

Yeah their videos are awkward with poorly-chosen music but they’re pretty detailed too β€”I’m sharing them because they do serve to legitimatize this as a real product set to ship soon instead of the aggravating vaporware / scams that have landed on Kickstarter many times in recent years.

Will it be the successor to the Logitech Harmony throne? Time will tell I suppose. But so far I’m impressed by what I’ve seen.

This looks interesting, I think it's a new offering?

I second that. I bought three or four when Harmony discontinued the line so I have spares, just in case.

Same. They’re in the freezer :joy:

But I think we all know it won’t be the hardware dying that kills this setup off.

I agree on the companion remote - I have one in the living room and bedroom. My only dissatisfaction regarding it is no backlit keys or mic to use for Siri on the Apple TV.

I am also wondering how long Harmony will continue their support of the software. I know they said they will support it as long a people are still using it, but we know how that goes in this area...

Cantata has a subreddit, where I learned more about their Home Assistant integration:

https://reddit.com/r/cantatacs/comments/1dgnifr/home_assistant_what_is_available_now_and_in_the/

I’ll be playing around with their configuration app soon. Currently Android only: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cantata.mobile&hl=en

The iOS release is expected end of month. They also announced Matter support will arrive in January.

can you program it to put number buttons on the touch screen? i like having them and all these new fancy remotes miss them off, which is why i've stuck to my trusty harmony (but as mentioned who knows how long it'll work for)

I have this. It requires their hub for some functionality which I already had. It’s clumsy to program and I had started the return process with Amazon when they released support for ATV. That was enough to keep it since I can still use the Siri Remote and have this one as 2nd (for my wife) with both Apple TV’s.

I have one of their button pusher bots and added that to the remote and was able to add control for a Matter plug. Will probably play around with it some more now that I’ve decided keep it.
