Changing a recording from TV to movie

I have a number of recordings that are in my TV show library that I think should be in the movie library.

How does Channels decide which library to put a recording in?

Is there a way to move a recording from one library to another?

It's based on the guide data.
Movies have 'Categories CONTAINS Movie' and no SeriesID.
That includes made for TV Movies.

You might think some Specials are Movies, but instead they're categorized as 'Categories CONTAINS Special'

If you dig into the json data for a recording, the ProgramID for a Movie starts with 'MV', a show 'SH', a series episode 'EP'.

Thanks, that's useful to know, but ultimately, the end user should be in control of what goes where.

You could create a feature request for that, but I doubt it will happen unless you can make a valid use case for it. Even then, since it's based on the guide data, I doubt it could be done.
The only workaround I can think of is try to import one as a Movie and see if you can match it. If it's not a Movie, you wont be able to match it.

ā€œValid caseā€?

I’m a customer requesting a feature. That’s a valid request by definition.

If by what you mean, examples of where and why this would be useful rather than merely me saying I’d like it, then have a look at this:

So many specials where one off shows end up inside a ā€˜folder’ that have, and will only ever have, one show inside. It adds a needless second tap / click to navigate to the special and these are all more like short kids movies rather than a TV show that are part of a series. It’s clunky, ugly and cumbersome currently.

As for whether it’s possible, of course it is. Channels is very good but it isn’t powered by magic; we are just talking about control over how recordings are displayed for the user. There numerous ways of sorting a collection of video files. Having a user controllable override isn’t magic either, just a logic based determination of what goes where.

Whether they wish to do it is another question entirely.

This is all legit. We'll look into making it easier for you to do this in the coming year.

As for a solution now, you could move the file to a movies import directory, delete the old record, and do a scan and scan it in as a movie. This would loose the commercials that were already indexed, but you can run the indexer again.

That's not what I said.
updated my post "valid use case"

Now that I see you're talking about Specials, I agree 100%.
I would like to see 'Specials' in their own category, since they're not a TV Series.
TV Series (has Seasons and Episodes)
Specials (short films, documentaries, etc.)
Movies

Sure, I should have written ā€˜case’ not ā€˜request’ and you’ve now added ā€˜use’ in between ā€˜valid’ and ā€˜case’ .

Anyway, glad we are in agreement.
