Channel Sharing to the same DVR?

Hi there!

I currently have both an old HDHR Dual and an Extend in my setup. Most of the time everythign gets recorded from the Extend, but on occasion I have 3 things to record that overlap slightly (I always set my recordings to start 1 minute early and go 1 minute late becuase I’ve been burned by networks slightly different conception of time before). In these cases there’s almost always at least two of the items that are on the same channel, so i’m wondering if Channels can take advantage of channel sharing to record these three things using just 2 tuners?

I’d like to remove the Dual from my setup, just becuase it’s a bit messier to have another HDHR and it’s extra cords, and becuase it’s tuner just isnt’ as good so we get more errors and issues with recordings when stuff gets recorded from it, especially when the weather is bad. (I’m also considering getting the new Quatro, but if I can get by with just my Extend I’d rather save the money)

Yes, if two recordings on the same channel overlap, only a single HDHR tuner is used for both recordings.

But only if the tuner sharing option is on…

(I believe that starting with version 3.1 tuner sharing by default starts with it off and needs to be manually enabled.)

The DVR always shares tuners for making recordings, regardless of the client side setting.

Great! So if say, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin which are on back to back on the CW overlap by a few minutes, those two recordings will both just use one tuner? Leaving the other one to record Agents of Shield on ABC? That’s just what I wanted to hear.

Second question: Where does one go to enable tuner sharing? (I know you said it’s automatically used by the DVR, but I’d still like to know where to turn it on for other uses) I don’t see the option anywhere in my DVR Settings, do I need to look in the AppleTV app?

Yes and yes
