Channels 4.0 Beta

OK if we're making changes, here's one small change I'd like to see.
Can you fix the Guide so that

(a) on iPad you have the same level of control as in the web view of the server. So you can EASILY (without insane horizontal scrolling) choose a future day and time

(b) allow an option to anchor the future times to times that make sense for California?
Right now the guide shows 6pm to 9pm, then 9pm onward. This is insane for CA, which has prime time from 8pm to 10pm. It would be far more useful to have the anchor times for CA something like hr earlier in each case, so 5pm and 8pm.

New beta released

  • Improved: Sidebar animation sped up
  • Improved: Movies and Kids cards are not available if library doesn’t have that kind of content
  • Fixed: Genre and decades lists are dismissable

The up direction is still not bringing up the time-bar.

@maddox could you make the sidebar selection automatically switch the displayed tab without clicking, and also slide content of the page dynamically left to right so that the sidebar never overlaps?

I mainly only use three apps (Channels, Plex, and Youtube) and I've become accustom to the side bar automatically switching the content on the other two apps.

In the iOS app: when going to alphabetical listing of all shows, selecting a show, then deleting all episodes using the ellipsis menu, nothing happens visually. I would expect to see the episodes disappear. This only happen when I back out of that screen.

iOS: when I go to recently watched, select an episode, select to delete it, the app crashes every time. I've sent crash report via the app.

I've seen the crash reports, thanks for giving me a better description of the path you took. I'm cleaning up some crashers today and will have a new build out. I think i've already fixed this one, but I'll check it agin with the extra info you gave me.

I second this. Moving and then clicking seems unnecessary, unless somehow loading each section is slow or costly somehow.

Another little bug-let in tvOS. If you bring up the side menu you can dismiss it again by swiping right on any menu item except the one you landed on to start with.

Also I don’t know whether it’s just me but I still find the animation of the text items appearing on the side menu distracting. The animation of the menu bar itself appearing is now fine with the latest update.

New build out

  • Fixed: Up gesture shows the timeline again
  • Fixed: Genre and Decade picker was crashing in iOS
  • Fixed: Some crashes after deleting items
  • Fixed: Some crashes while using hold gesture on recordings
  • Fixed: Various other crashes

Thank you!
Why can't the Android side of the house work as well as the Apple Side?

Got the latest and maybe I missed it before but I can’t sort my recordings alphabetically any longer. I only have Recently Recorded. That’s a huge negative from my perspective.

Also, I’ve got Up Next turned off in the navigation settings but it is still showing up in the Library. I’d really like to see the setting stop that from happening. I’ve never liked Up Next.

Last, I’d suggest some other title than New Movies. Maybe it’s me but it seems odd to have Animal House, Strips and Christmas Vacation in a section called New Movies. How about just Movies?

Still would like to see like I and others have mentioned to have the side bar selection auto0display the tab rather than having to click to change to it.

Good progress!

tvOS or iOS? I'm not having any issues with upnext showing up in the left menu when turned off.

If the left menu were to auto select then the left menu would have to stay up and you would have to click right to go to it so really it doesn't save you any clicks but I suppose it would allow you to preview it and decide if you want to go into it. I might like that.

I don't remember seeing an option to have your recordings sorted by name. It's been newest first of oldest first.

Completely agree. I would also suggest/request recorded Sports go to their own folder. Recorded Sports just dirty's up TV Shows.

That's actually a great idea. Also, to further this request, offer sorting options on sports recordings by sport/team. (This should be enabled by Gracenote's providing teamId on sports recordings already in your DB.)

To clear up confusion this what I’m referring to.

Incidentally, it may or may not be a big deal but the beta and released clients are not playing nice with one another. The released client appears to be honoring at the least the off setting for Recordings as they don’t display if that option is set in the beta client.

@johnluber the Up Next setting is for showing it in the main sidebar navigation, like everything in that settings section.

:joy: so, the new tabs have actually been in the codebase for a while, I guess now that you can enable them, the settings are exposing them in the App Store release.

Janky Manage Team Pass button

Ah! the Manaeam Pass button. Thanks! What device is that on?

Update: Fixed, will be in the next beta.

@Maddox, I think what it is is actually a long standing issue. While you can disable Up Next it doesn’t truly disable as any new passes need to have the recordings uncheck Up Next as well. It’d be really nice just to be able to enable or disable the group in one place. My vote would be for in the client.

Also, I don’t want to gloss over the apparent loss of the ability to sort recordings by Recently Recorded, Alphabetic and Release Date. Alphabetic is very useful to us.
