Channels App doesn't seem to release the tuner when exited

Hello,

I’m using a HDHomeRun Connect in New Zealand. I have 2 Apple TVs and a Plex Media Server with the DVR beta. All of these are connected to the HDHomeRun Connect. I found recordings on the Plex DVR where aborting as there were no Tuners available. This was happening when both Apple TVs were sleeping. When checking the Tuner Status via the web interface of the HDHomeRun Connect, I found that both the Apple TVs were occupying both the tuners.

Is Channels supposed to relinquish the tuner when you exit the app, or the ATV goes into sleep? If not, is there a way to force it to do so?

Thanks

Trevor.

Can you screenshot the tuner details? Does it show a streaming rate?

Hi,

I was just trying to sort out some screen shots for you. But I can’t replicate what I had this afternoon. Selecting programs in Channels and exiting out to the guide is releasing the Tuner fine.

I had rebooted both the ATV’s just after posting. So maybe that has cleared the issue??

I’ll keep an eye out on it and post again it if happens again. Very odd.

PS, I just noticed that the Plex DVR had aborted the recording at the exact same time that I started one of the ATVs up and started watching a show. I think I have a lot more digging to do.

Hey dude,

I’ve just got an HDHomerun and looking at getting the channels app for the apple tv 4. I’m in New Zealand as well (Auckland).

Just wondering what your experience with the app is like and if there are any problems or bugs you have come across for NZ users.

Thanks for your time!

JT.

Hi JT,

I love the Channels App. It’s fast and provides a better / faster “surfing” experience than the UI on the TVs (Samsung and LG). Well worth the $30 odd NZ dollars. My wife also prefers it as switching from Plex/Netflix/Live TV is a breeze.

I am also in Auckland and have no issues with the EPG. The only odd thing was the issue I noted here (both Apple TVs apparently using the 2 tuners in the HDHomeRun when they were not in the Channels App). But I have yet to see this happen again. I can only assume that whatever it was has now been resolved, or it was just some really random issue (Plex DVR is still very Beta, so I would tend to blame that really)

Hope that helps.

Trevor.

Thanks bro.

I’ve been using the free instaTV app and having problems with the HD streams. So was a bit cautious in forking out $30 for the app.

I get perfect reception when the aerial is plugged into the TV but it sometimes stutters or freezes with the HD channels using it via Apple tv and the instaTV app.

I have everything cables cat6 and have a gigabit router.

I think it probably is the instaTV app but just wanted to see what others in NZ experiences are.

I started another post just for kiwis here as well.

Thanks for your feedback.

If you feel like trying out the free instaTV app to compare with channels and give some feedback if you have time. Feel free!

I had a similar issue with my set-up (HDHomerun Prime, ATV, and MAC OS server) on Tuesday. I’ll get screen shots next time.
