Channels app in the UK

Hi all,

New here, be gentle. I’m just wanting to gauge how good the channels app is for folks in the UK.

I want to get a HDHomeRun device and use it with my Apple TV, obviously with the Channels app but at present, I don’t have an aerial, so it will require a big chunk of change upfront, which is not something I want to do if the Channels app is not worth it. I don’t mind paying for an aerial, and HDHomeDevice, and the Channels app if all is peachy.

So, how is performance? Does the guide work properly, any missing information? Do all shows have icons?

It works well.

The guide isn’t perfect if you use the default one but there are options and I think you can use the Normal DVB guide. (No pictures in the DVB guide though)

I use it and can recommend it.

Cheers for the reply. So the default has pictures but is incomplete? And the other options are complete/almost complete with no pictures?

Do you use an app on your computer to record stuff?

I still use EyeTV to record. I have been using it for years and hope to replace it with Channels DVR eventually-when it’s ready.

I also use iPlayer and AirPlay the other catchup services.

Yes. The default guide is not perfect but it isn’t bad. I don’t mind really.

I use the Radio Times app on my iPad to see what’s on. It’s good.

I will post a photo later if I get a chance/don’t forget

Hi I have been using Channels app in the uk for some time and the app is great!..But the show information is awful they have been great adding different sources but its quite bad, the standard stuff is ok but for instance Eastenders will display information about what eastendes is not tonights show etc, quite often it will take a name from a show “the Chase” for instance and this its a film,

Even with the above I push through as I love the UI and live TV on mu Apple TV is ace just need to have better UK support

So can you change data providers easily? Does that not help with the issues you describe?

Also, does the HDHomeRun come with any recording software, or did you buy EyeTV separately.

No DVR software with the HDHR. They have their own crowd funded beta which cost £40 to join. Don’t join it though as channels is far better and their own DVR is just around the corner

I have been using EyeTv for 10 years or so now. Stared with v1 on an early 2006 MacMini connected with to my tv. I want away from EyeTv asap and am gasping for the Channels DVR to be ready (for uk use)
