Channels as a TV Headend for Plex

This idea has been talked about a lot lately after the ruling on the killing off of the CableCARD about a month ago.

My idea is to have Channels coordinate and manage all the content streams (TVE, OTA, and CableCARD while it lasts) and then present itself to Plex as a regular TV Tuner on the network. (e.g. HDHR tuner)

In my case a remote TV Headed server would be ideal because I have Frontier FiOS where I live and they don’t offer TV in that location anymore. But my apartment where my Channels DVR is has Spectrum where I subscribe to TV and internet. So if my Plex server could talk to my Channels server it would be a seamless solution.

Use Channels-DVR as a tuner for Emby

My setup consists of a dedicated Channels server and Shield devices at each entertainment center. Outside, at the pool area, I use a super cheap Roku TV (wireless) to watch Emby (local channels only via the HDHomerun). While I'm not a fan of Roku devices, it was the only TV, when I purchased it, that was small and allowed me to move it from the closet to outdoor easily. My imagination got the better of me and I ended up writing a python program that calls a Channels DVR endpoint that provides…

Same concept. Since Plex only accepts a single guide source (at least, that used to be the case), it is up to you wrangle the disparate sources into a single XMLTV file you can use.
