I’ve installed today’s beta and have a question. I see where we can now enable Tuner sharing in the client, but does this mean that 1) we have to enable it for every tuner and 2) does it then also have to be enabled on every client.
If the answer to 1 & 2 is yes then I would recommend that this needs to be enabled / disabled in the Channels DVR and not the client. I have presently 4 tuners and 6 AppleTVs and that equates to a lot more administration then I would prefer to have to do.
I am missing something, I just updated to latest beta. Confirmed version on Settings Page. I don’t see any options for tuner sharing in the client.
I would also vote for Tuner Sharing being a “Central” function. I do not want to manage it by client (11 of them). I would think the most common use case would be the same. Perhaps allow a toggle per HD devices to used in a shared mode or not? But not by client.
Does anyone else see where the option for Shared Tuners is?
Go to Settings, select a tuner and then press and hold the center of the remote. This will bring up a menu where you can select sharing.
I agree doing it per tuner is very tedious.
However I’m not sure if a setting on the DVR side makes sense. There could be situations where you want some ATVs to stream via the DVR and others to stream directly, no?
I don’t see myself ever having a split setup where some stream through the DVR and others directly. To me that defeats the purpose of tuner sharing - the ability reduce the number of required tuners by sharing the stream.
Personally, I liked where it was just on by default and not selectable as in the previous beta better.
Managing from the DVR side would be convenient.
But, I suppose a compromise might be to set the sharing of tuners as the default for the client and then have the ability to turn it off if you wanted to have some not shared?
Another option might be to share when the DVR is present and use tuners directly if the DVR is not present.
I’m worried that some people are using really underpowered hardware for their DVRs, and enabling tuner sharing by default will break their live tv streaming.
I think you’re right that putting the setting on the DVR page probably makes more sense than doing it per-client. I’ll poke at it some more tomorrow.

The only other option is perhaps to enable by device, all enabled behave as shared pool, all not enable only direct stream, theat We could manage tuner priority within the client for those.
Honestly I don’t see much of a use case for a mixed environment of shared And non shared tuners.
I would only disable when the dvr backend doesn’t have the horse power
Fixed in latest beta. Enabled by default, but there’s a new flag on the Settings tab to turn it off. The old hidden per-tuner flag is gone.
