I am using the Channels DVR along with the Channels app and I’m saving DVR to a Synology NAS. I needed to shutdown and move the NAS this morning and all of a sudden I couldn’t watch live TV on my Apple TV either. Why is live TV dependent on the NAS being available?
It isn’t technically. It may be that it saw your DVR previously and still thinks it is attached. Force quit Channels and it should be fine.
Thanks for the report.
Thank you. I hadn’t thought to try that . . . just didn’t understand why the show stopped playing when the NAS was unplugged. In fact, for a short time the NAS was on a weaker network connection and I was getting a lot of buffering watching live TV. They must be connected in some way.
There is a “tuner sharing” option on the Settings tab which makes live tv go through the DVR server. This allows you to use one tuner to watch the same channel on multiple TVs. You can turn it off.
I don’t see that option anywhere in my settings tab. Where should I be looking specifically?
It is in the settings on the Apple TV.
I found it and changed it. Thank you very much.
