Channels DVR not recording to external storage on Shield TV

Hello-

I’ve recently noticed that at some point Channels DVR, which I have running on my Shield TV, has started eating up a lot of space on the Shield’s internal storage (I get regular “Shield is critically low on storage” errors). I feel like it’s recording to the internal storage. It’s showing that Channels DVR is eating up like 8gb right now.

At one point it appeared to be properly using my external HD attached to the Shield, and the DVR still plays media fine off the external HD (and the external has tons of available space…about 1tb free).

Any idea why this might be happening?

Recordings are generally 12GB/hour, so I would be surprised if they are going to the internal storage.

The guide database is stored on the internal storage, it’s possible that’s getting bigger than expected…

Try running this command from Terminal on a mac, replacing x.x.x.x with the IP of your SHIELD:

curl -XPUT http://x.x.x.x:8089/dvr/guide/optimize
