Channels DVR on NVIDIA Shield - Help

I probably just don’t get it but I can’t get Channels VR to work on my NVIDIA Shield. This is what the channels web site says when I sign in.

(check) Subscribe to Channels DVR
(Not checked) Install DVR software on your computer or NAS

On the NVIDIA the screen says DVR enabled and network server active.

I have a WD My Passport 2TB HD plugged into the NVIDA and it recognizes it. I didn’t format it or do anything to it other than plug it in.

On the ATV, Channels says to go to a web site and authorize use of the remote device for DVR.

I swear it has to do with the HD but if I format it on the NVIDIA it will encrypt it and it can only be used on the NVIDIA. Before I try that, I wanted to be sure.

What do I need to do?

Getting closer - thanks. I established the NVIDIA as a PLEX Server in the meantime and now the Channels DVR does not have write permission to the drive to create a folder. Did I screw it up?
